After Action Report
Winter Training Event 2008
This four day event went well from several perspectives.
First, there was plenty of snow, forcing the event participants to Akia and
sled-in all equipment and supplies for the weekend.
Upon reaching the training site, we found the cabin, wood shed, and most
importantly the out-house buried under several feet of snow. After much
digging, everything was made right and camp established.
Once again, we had the good fortune to have Mutti cooking, and no one lost
any weight during this event (except those foolish enough to touch the
raisins.)
We accomplished the following training: movement with cargo sleds (day),
movement with cargo sleds (night), establish and maintain radio contact (with
our new "period" radio sets), combat patrol (day), combat patrol (night), and
establish a fighting position.
Night patrols happened after dark each day of the training event. In
combination with the radios, we were able to assist some distressed parents
trying to find their cabin site and their teenage children.
Much was learned. For example, there are some real tricks to not getting hit or
dragged down by the Akias, and the knowledge gained will form a good base for future training.
Thank you again, to Greg Hader, Chuck "Mutti" and Jake "Stuka" for digging
out the cabin.
Final note: If you have not been to the Hot Springs at Carson, you are
missing something!
Horrido!!!
